Second half of the Spring Mountain Race Series opens with championship picture still wide open
The Spring Mountain Race Series kicked off the back half of the 2025-26 season in mild weather and steady track conditions, delivering a competitive weekend marked by tight class battles and podium results that kept the championship picture tight across both series.
The Sports Car Series opened with immediate action at the front of the GTM class, as Dylan Northern and Michele Abbate exchanged positions throughout Race 1 in a close-fought battle. A red flag interrupted the session following a contact incident between Bruce Semler and Sam Yu, with Semler making contact as Yu ran wide. Abbate was unable to complete the race after mechanical issues sidelined her, while Michael Reynolds was also among those affected by the disrupted session. Randy Wonnenberg emerged from the first race with the GTM class win, with Northern second and Chad Lancaster third.

Race 2 saw the field reset and competition resume in earnest. Wonnenberg again took the GTM win, with Lancaster moving up to second and Abbate recovering to third. In GT4, John Mueller swept both races to take the class win for the weekend, with Zach Bradford and Bruce Semler sharing the podium across the two sessions. Gabriel Giannattasio dominated the GTL class, winning both races ahead of Brian Schmidt. In GTU, Mike Chen took Race 1, with Jeff Fraser second, before Fraser turned the tables in Race 2 to claim the class win. Gregg Gorski won both GTX races from pole, taking the class honors ahead of Brian Reynolds.

In the Radical Cup Challenge, Brandon Rambo took an early lead in Race 1 and never relinquished it, securing the Gold class win ahead of Mark Rohrwasser and Doug Ramirez in second and third respectively.
The weekend also featured a notable debut in the Radical Cup field. Spencer Schmidt, son of Sam Schmidt, a well-known motorsport figure, competed throughout the weekend and showed strong pace. Schmidt earned a fourth-place finish in the Gold class in Race 1, then climbed to third in Race 2.
Rambo won Race 2 and completed his sweep of the weekend’s Gold races, further extending his championship lead. Chris Hinojosa won the Silver class in Race 1, ahead of Michael Reynolds and Bruce Semler. Semler turned the tables in Race 2 to take the class win, with Hinojosa second and Reynolds third. Jeff Fraser won the Rookie class, and Gregg Gorski won Radical Platinum.
With results tightly bunched across multiple classes, the championship standings reflect just how competitive the season has become.
