How to Enable Disqus Comments and Share Buttons on RACER.com

If you’re having trouble viewing or posting comments, or using the share buttons on RACER.com, it may be because these features require you to accept certain cookies. Disqus powers the comments, and third-party social networks handle sharing. Social Networking Cookies must be enabled for these to work. This setup ensures you consent to cookie usage before third-party services load.

Enabling these features is simple. Follow the steps below to accept the necessary cookies.

Step 1: Look for the Cookie Consent Popup

The first time you visit RACER.com, a cookie consent box should pop up at the bottom or top of the page. This lets you manage your cookie preferences.

The pop-up lists categories like:

  • Advertising Cookies: For showing relevant ads and avoiding repeats.
  • Social Networking Cookies: Needed for sharing content (including share buttons and Disqus comments) and sometimes for ads.
  • Unclassified Cookies: Ones still being sorted by the site.

It also has buttons like “Decline All” and “Allow All.”

To enable comments and share buttons:

  1. Make sure the Social Networking Cookies checkbox is selected (it might be unchecked by default).
  2. Click “Allow All” for everything, or “Allow” if you’ve picked specific options (as long as Social Networking is checked).
  3. Refresh the page. Comments should now appear under articles, and share buttons should show up.

If you close the pop-up without accepting, it won’t reappear automatically. Go to Step 2.

Step 2: Access Consent Preferences from the Footer

If the pop-up doesn’t show or you’ve closed it before, you can reopen it from the site footer.

  1. Scroll to the bottom of any page on RACER.com.
  2. Find the footer links: Terms & Conditions, Privacy Policy, Contact Us, and Consent Preferences.
  3. Click “Consent Preferences” to bring up the pop-up.
  4. Follow the instructions from Step 1 to select Social Networking Cookies and save your choices.

For quick access, use this direct link: Consent Preferences. We’ve also added similar links near features such as the comments section on the site.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Sometimes the pop-up doesn’t appear, or features don’t load even after accepting cookies. Here are common reasons and fixes.

Ad Blockers: These often mistake the consent box for an ad and block it.

  • Fix: Pause your ad blocker for RACER.com (add it to the allowlist in tools like uBlock Origin or AdBlock Plus). Refresh the page to test.

Browser Problems: Settings, extensions, or compatibility might block the pop-up.

  • Fix: Switch to another browser, such as from Chrome to Firefox or Edge, to check if it’s specific to one.

Other Issues: Try clearing your browser cache and cookies, or use incognito/private mode to start fresh.

If nothing works, use the “Contact Us” footer link to report it. Include your browser, device, and any extensions.

About the Cookies

Social Networking Cookies: These connect to services like Disqus for comments and social media for share buttons. They might also track activity for ads across sites.

Why are they required? Privacy laws like GDPR or CCPA need your consent for non-essential cookies. Disqus and share buttons depend on them to respect your settings.

Privacy Note: Accepting doesn’t share personal data without your awareness. See our Privacy Policy in the footer for more.

With cookies enabled, comments and share buttons will work across all sections, like Motorsports, IndyCar, NASCAR, Formula 1, and IMSA. Reach out if you need more help!
