Alguersuari retires from motorsport
Former Toro Rosso Formula 1 driver Jaime Alguersuari has announced his retirement from motorsport, the the age of 25.
The Spaniard became the youngest driver in F1 history when he made his debut at the 2009 Hungarian Grand Prix, aged 19 years and 125 days. He left the team and F1 at the end of 2011, following 10 points scoring finishes in 46 starts.
Alguersuari subsequently raced in Formula E with Virgin in the inaugural 2014-'15 season, before withdrawing due to health concerns on the eve of the London finale in June. Having announced in August he would miss the second campaign, Alguersuari – who said his health was no barrier to continuing in motorsport – has elected to retire altogether.
"I decided to stop because it's time for change," he said at a press conference in Madrid. "Something inside me says it's the moment to take a different path, because I think I have fallen out of love with this girlfriend who has been with me all these years."
