AO Racing confirms Rexy and Spike's return for 2026 IMSA campaigns

AO Racing has announced that 'Rexy the Porsche GT3 Rawr' and 'Spike the LMP2 Dragon' will continue to race in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship next season.

Rexy, the dinosaur-themed No. 77 Porsche 911 GT3 R, returns for his fourth season of IMSA competition and third in the GTD PRO category. Since his debut in the 2023 Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, Rexy has become one of the most instantly recognizable cars on any grid of sports car racing, appealing to fans of all ages. That also applies to Rexy’s sister, Roxy, who has appeared in select IMSA events since 2023.

And significantly, Rexy has been a winner. Laurin Heinrich drove Rexy to the 2024 IMSA GTD PRO Championship, establishing the German driver as one of the top young GT3 drivers around the world.

Heinrich and co-driver Klaus Bachler – who joined the team as the reigning FIA WEC LMGT3 Champion – won this year's Sebring 12H, and also drove Roxy to her first IMSA win at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.

Spike, the No. 99 ORECA 07-Gibson, will begin his third LMP2 campaign next season. AO Racing Team Owner PJ Hyett has become one of the top LMP2 Bronze drivers during that time; he and Dane Cameron drove Spike to the LMP2 Pro/Am class win at this year's Le Mans 24 Hours (accompanied by Cadillac WTR driver Louis Delétraz).

This weekend at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, site of the 28th annual Motul Petit Le Mans, Hyett and Cameron will try to win the LMP2 Championship in IMSA, while Hyett bids for an automatic invitation to next year's Le Mans 24 Hours by way of winning the Jim Trueman Award.

AO Racing has also won the 2024 European Le Mans Series LMP2 Championship in partnership with English team TF Sport, who also supported AO's Le Mans class win in 2025.

Both Rexy and Spike will have special Halloween-themed skeleton liveries at Petit Le Mans.

Their drivers for the 2026 season will be announced at a later date.
