RLL BMW takes a 1-2 finish at Road America

BMW M Team RLL took a 1-2 finish in Sunday's Motul SportsCar Grand Prix at Road America, led by the winning No. 24 BMW M Hybrid V8 of Philipp Eng and Dries Vanthoor.

Eng and Vanthoor finished ahead of the sister No. 25 BMW of Marco Wittmann and Sheldon van der Linde, just days after BMW M Motorsport confirmed that it would not renew its racing service contract with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing for 2026.

The No. 93 Acura Meyer Shank Racing ARX-06 (Renger van der Zande/Nick Yelloly) finished a close third behind the second BMW, ahead of the No. 31 Cadillac Whelen V-Series.R (Jack Aitken/Earl Bamber) and the No. 6 Porsche Penske Motorsport 963 (Mathieu Jaminet/Matt Campbell).

Jaminet and Campbell extended their GTP Championship lead with two races remaining, after Nick Tandy in the No. 7 Penske Porsche received a 60-second stop-and-go penalty for blocking the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac of Ricky Taylor and causing a collision with 55 minutes to go. Tandy and Felipe Nasr finished 11th and last in class.

AO Racing's PJ Hyett and Dane Cameron took their second straight LMP2 class win, and with it, the No. 99 ORECA 07-Gibson also took the championship lead from United Autosports USA's Daniel Goldburg – who crashed on the opening lap of the race.

Inter Europol Competition's Jeremy Clarke and super-sub Connor De Phillippi finished second in class, followed by the No. 11 TDS Racing and No. 2 United Autosports cars.

This time it wasn't a double AO Racing victory – the No. 77 Porsche 911 GT3 R of Laurin Heinrich had to pit from the lead with 15 minutes left, handing first place and the GTD PRO win to the No. 1 Paul Miller Racing BMW M4 GT3 EVO of Madison Snow and Neil Verhagen.

Mike Rockenfeller and Sebastian Priaulx finished second in the No. 64 Ford Multimatic Mustang GT3, while the No. 81 DragonSpeed Ferrari 296 GT3 (Albert Costa/Giacomo Altoe) won out in a brawl for the final GTD PRO podium position.

A fourth-place finish for the No. 3 Corvette Racing Z06 GT3.R was enough for Antonio Garcia and Alexander Sims to maintain their championship lead over Costa, who moved up to second in the standings. Heinrich and Klaus Bachler finished eighth and dropped to third in points.

In GTD, a forceful pass from Kenton Koch gave Triarsi Competizione its first-ever IMSA victory. The No. 021 Ferrari of Koch and Onofrio Triarsi took the win with eight minutes to go – as Koch made a late lunge at Turn 6 to barge past the No. 36 DXDT Racing Corvette of Alec Udell and take the lead.

Udell and co-driver Robert Wickens would sink to eighth in the final minutes due to the damage they suffered.

The No. 78 Forte Racing Lamborghini would come home second, with the No. 34 Conquest Racing Ferrari in third, and the No. 96 Turner Motorsport BMW in fourth.
