Iron Lynx No. 63 permitted to race at Le Mans

The No. 63 Iron Lynx Mercedes-AMG LMGT3 has been permitted to start the 93rd Le Mans 24 Hours after a difficult week of preparation filled with setbacks.

On Wednesday in Free Practice 1, driver Stephen Grove crashed the car at the entrance to the Dunlop Chicane. The Mercedes suffered heavy front-end damage and the chassis was replaced overnight, meaning Stephen, his son Brenton Grove, and Luca Stolz missed first qualifying and Free Practice 2 that night.

In Free Practice 4 last night, Brenton Grove had completed only one lap at night before the replacement car broke down along the Mulsanne Straight.

Under the Le Mans 24 Hours Supplementary Regulations, all drivers are required to complete five laps of night-time driving to be eligible to race. However, after an appeal to the race stewards, Iron Lynx's third LMGT3 entry will be allowed to start with two provisions: Stolz, the fastest driver in the car across all practices, must start the race; and Stephen Grove will not be permitted to drive at night between the hours of 10:00pm Saturday and 6:00am on Sunday.

The No. 63 Iron Lynx Mercedes-AMG will take Saturday's start 62nd and last.
