Schumacher to co-run German F4 squad

Ex-Formula 1 racer Ralf Schumacher will co-run an ADAC Formula 4 squad with long-time Mercedes DTM technical chief Gerhard Ungar from 2016.

HTP Junior Team Ungar took Marvin Dienst to the inaugural German F4 title this year, and will now be jointly managed by Schumacher and Ungar. Schumacher is already a patron of ADAC's karting program, and previously worked with Ungar when he raced in the DTM from 2008-'12.

"Building a team together and bringing on young talent was always our shared objective, and this year we have at last decided that we would manage an ADAC Formula 4 team together," said Schumacher. "We think it's important to give the up-and-coming youngsters a good platform, which is why we would like to expand our youth program above and beyond the ADAC Formula 4 series in the near future."

It marks Schumacher's second junior single-seater team involvement since he retired from F1, having previously partnered Mucke Motorsport in its GP3 program in 2010-'11.

The German took six grand prix victories in an F1 career that stretched from 1997 to 2007, including stints with Jordan, Williams and Toyota. He began his own car racing career in the ADAC's BMW Junior championship and German Formula 3, before swapping to Japan in 1996 and winning the Formula Nippon title that launched him into F1.
