WEC: Morand to continue with one car
The Swiss Morand LMP2 squad is pushing ahead with its plans for a reduced World Endurance Championship campaign after confirming that a planned buyout of the team has been abandoned.
Team SARD Morand cut its entry from two cars to one last week following its withdrawal from the opening round of the World Endurance Championship at Silverstone earlier this month. That resulted from the failure of the Kairos data encryption company's purchase of the team to go through in time.
Team owner Benoit Morand has now confirmed that negotiations with Kairos – which also sponsors the Greaves Motorsport team in the European Le Mans Series – have ended.
"We have the program for one car and we can continue through this year's WEC," Morand told AUTOSPORT.
He also confirmed that the team's solo Morgan-Judd/BMW EVO would be driven by Oliver Webb, Pierre Ragues and Zoel Amberg.
It is unclear of the status of Morand's deal with the Japanese SARD team under which Koki Saga was due to complete the WEC. The team's arrangement with the British-registered Raceto24 organization, which planned to fill a vacant seat at the team via an internet-based reality TV show, has been discontinued.
