IMSA: Series, Elkins expected to part ways
RACER has learned a mutual split with IMSA and Scot Elkins, its VP of technical regulations, is imminent. Elkins, who served in a similar, senior role with the American Le Mans Series prior to the unification between the ALMS and Grand-Am, continued with IMSA under the new TUDOR United SportsCar Championship banner since its formation.
The launch of the TUDOR Championship in 2014 was a trying endeavor for the series and teams as more than a dozen cars in multiple classes required significant Balance of Performance adjustments to establish parity. The work by Elkins and IMSA’s technical staff to tighten BoP disparities throughout the season received praise from most corners of the paddock, and eventually produced exceptionally close racing.
Calls to Elkins went unreturned Monday morning, and an IMSA media official declined to comment when reached by RACER.

. The timing of his departure from IMSA is currently unclear, but it would not be a surprise to see the veteran race official continue through the Jan. 23-25 Rolex 24 at Daytona.IMSA added Simon Hodgson as the series’ managing director of racing operations to oversee the entire competition department late in the 2014 season, and is expected to either identify a replacement for Elkins, who had moved to a part-time consulting role for IMSA, or to reassign his responsibilities to others within the department.
Elkins was recently hired as the race director for the USF2000 and Pro Mazda open-wheel Mazda Road to Indy ladder series, and is believed to have other consulting roles on the horizon.
