AO Racing gets ‘Sketchy’ for Laguna

AO Racing had a problem going into the upcoming “throwback weekend” at Laguna Seca: How does a team with only three years of history celebrate the throwback spirit while remaining true to itself?

A creative solution was revealed today during the 2026 edition of Air|Water – the annual Porsche gathering at Costa Mesa, Calif. – in the form of “Sketchy,” a concept-style version of its beloved Rexy, taking inspiration from the brainstorming sessions which ultimately brought Rexy to life at the 2023 Twelve Hours of Sebring. The aesthetic comes straight off a sketchpad, with the body panels filled in with green marker scribbles and rough, hand-drawn pen strokes.

Sketchy will make its race debut next week at the StubHub Monterey SportsCar Championship at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca on May 3.

“When I heard Laguna Seca was going to be IMSA’s first official throwback event, I was very excited as a long time sports car fan,” said Gunnar Jeannette, team principal of AO Racing. “It did create an interesting problem for AO, as our team doesn’t have much history to throw back to! So, instead of a historic livery, we through our fans would appreciate seeing Rexy turn into his origin story and first sketch. What better place for us to unveil Sketchy to the world than Air|Water. It’s a great opportunity to launch a fun project with the Porsche community here in Southern California.”

Alongside the launch of the car, a limited-run of Sketchy-themed merchandise is now available at AO Racing’s official website, and will be available to purchase now during Air|Water and during next weekend’s race.

AO Racing is the defending GTD Pro class winner at Laguna Seca, where Klaus Bachler and Laurin Heinrich scored the team’s second win of the season. This year, Nick Tandy and Harry King will drive the No. 77 Porsche.
