Honda to apply more Acura branding with MSR in IndyCar
Acura’s upcoming pause to its IMSA GTP program will not mean the end of Acura’s presence in North American motorsports as the brand will start to shift its promotions to include additional representation within the Meyer Shank Racing IndyCar program.
MSR’s Felix Rosenqvist earned pole position and placed second during last weekend’s Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach while carrying large Acura logos on the No. 60 Honda (pictured above), and to continue the crossover in open-wheel racing, Acura will dress the sister No. 66 MSR Honda with Acura logos for next month’s Indianapolis 500, which is a first for the brand.
"We're excited for the Acura brand expansion into the IndyCar Series and we can't wait to see our Acura livery take on the Indy 500," said Hundy Liu, manager, Acura Brand Marketing. "We saw a great response to the livery on Felix Rosenqvist's MSR car last week at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, and I know it will be even more exciting to see the Acura brand on Marcus Armstrong's car at Indianapolis."
Acura’s first foray into IndyCar branding took place in 1994 with the Comptech Racing CART IndyCar Series entry driven by IMSA champion Parker Johnstone, and is expected to continue with MSR at one or more races after the Indy 500.
"The IndyCar series has shown incredible growth in the last year and a half and we see it as a powerful opportunity to build awareness for our Acura brand – particularly on a stage where Honda-powered teams and drivers have been so successful recently," said Liu. “We look forward to this new chapter for Acura in motorsports."
