Elkins to join Mazda Road to Indy as race director
NBC Sports reports that Scot Elkins, managing director of technical regulations for IMSA, will join the Mazda Road to Indy as race director for the Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires and Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda. Elkins will serve in those roles while continuing with his existing IMSA commitments.
Mazda Road to Indy series chief Dan Andersen confirmed the news.
"I've known Scot for many years and have always considered him to be a strong and very talented operations and race control individual," said Andersen. "We've become friends due to our various interactions in the sport, and when the opportunity to add him to our staff was presented, I did not hesitate at all.
"The Mazda Road to Indy trains drivers for professional race driving careers, and it is of the utmost importance that we use top people in all levels of our staff to accomplish that goal. Scot Elkins joining Tony Cotman gives me a top team and I am delighted to welcome Scot onboard."
IndyCar president of competition Derrick Walker told RACER back in October
that the organization was close to finalizing revisions to its race control structure."There's a lot of work to be done in the off-season. Putting our steward package together is big; we're looking at new candidates because you rarely get stewards who can do every single race," Walker said. "We'll have a bigger rotation next year."
