F1: Berger reckons Raikkonen, not Alonso, should make way at Ferrari

While the status of both Fernando Alonso and presumed new driver Sebastian Vettel remain in flux at ferrari,

Kimi Raikkonen has been notably relaxed about his own immediate future

with the team. But, according to Gerhard Berger – former Ferrari F1 racer and soon-to-be-ex-director of the FIA Single-Seater Commission – he shouldn't be.
"If I was Ferrari, I would keep Alonso. Because then, with Alonso and Vettel, you would have the two best drivers in the world together in one team," Berger told Germany's

Sport Bild

. Berger is the subject of recent rumors that he will join another of his former teams, McLaren, in a management role. However, his comments about McLaren's presumed top choice to drive its Honda-powered cars in 2015 would appear to support the team's firm denials that Berger will soon be rejoining that company...

Although he has struggled this year in compartison with his Ferrari teammate, Raikkonen has maintained that his position within the team is secure for next year. Of course, the Finn also had a firm contract in 2010 and that didn't stop the Scuderia from ousting him in favor of Alonso, and paying off the balance of the contract terms. It could do so again, Berger appears to be suggesting.

Perhaps the team is hoping the option for teams to field three cars would allow it to have three former World Champions up its sleeve! On the other hand, such a step would also theoretically open the door for Alonso to pursue a third seat at Mercedes, which is rumored to have been his preferred option all along.

And so it goes.
