Guenther joins Envision Formula E team

Maximilian Guenther has joined Paysafe Envision Formula E Team, becoming the team’s first confirmed driver for the GEN4 era of Formula E.

The German fills one of the two seats vacated by Sebastein Buemi and Joel Eriksson, who are both being replaced for the upcoming season, although the former will remain in an advisory role.

“I’m very happy to become a Paysafe Envision Formula E driver for the GEN4 era and I really look forward to our future together,” said Guenther. “The team has a very successful history in Formula E and exceptional quality throughout the organization.”

Guenther departed DS Penske the day after the 2025-26 season concluded, ending a two-year association with the team that yielded two wins in 2024-25, but the team endured a difficult campaign in the most recent season, with neither Guenther or teammate Taylor Barnard registering a podium until the final round when Barnard's victory ended the barren run – coincidentally breaking Guenther’s record for youngest race winner in the series.

“We are thrilled to announce Max as our newest driver at Paysafe Envision Formula E Team,” said Sylvain Filippi, team managing director and CTO. “Season 13 is going to be an important year for all teams; learning the GEN4 car as well as a new sporting format, which is going to put an even bigger focus on outright pace and speed.

“Max has proven how capable he is at delivering qualifying laps when it matters, as well as podium finishes and race wins. We’re incredibly excited to start working with him and hit the ground running at preseason testing in November.”

Jaguar-powered Envision Racing claimed the teams’ championship in the first season of GEN3 despite being a customer outfit, beating the British brand’s factory operation, and the seven-time winner appears to be setting similarly lofty targets once again as Formula E enters its fourth era of car.
