BSS: Westbrook back with Trackspeed for Baku
Chevrolet factory driver Richard Westbrook will return to the British Trackspeed Porsche team for the Blancpain Sprint Series finale in Baku on Nov. 2. The Briton, who undertook partial British GT Championship campaigns with the team in 2012-13, will drive the team's solo Porsche 911 GT3-R together with Porsche Supercup frontrunner Norbert Siedler in the two one-hour races in Azerbaijan.
"I haven't race for them since Donington Park last year, but I know all the guys there and it seems like a pretty good entry," said Westbrook. "My recollection of the Porsche on street circuits is that it pretty good and should go well at that kind of place."
Team boss David Ashburn said: "Westy is a Trackspeed driver and the plan was to have him and Nick [Tandy, who has raced for the team over the past three seasons], but he wasn't able to do it because of his Porsche commitments. They recommended Norbert, and I am told he is very good.
"We want to go down there and give it go: it's going to be interesting because there are a lot of what I call proper drivers on the grid."
Trackspeed joins a strong entry for an end-of-season event with a total prize fund of 175,000 euros [$220,000], with 100,000 euros [$127,000] going to the winners of the main event.
McLaren factory drivers Rob Bell and Kevin Estre will team up in a MP4-12C fielded by the Belgian Boutsen team. They are reprising their Baku partnership of 2013, with Hexis Racing, that yielded two third places and a factory contract for Estre.
Alvaro Parente, who is McLaren's other factory-contracted driver, will race for series regular Bhaitech alongside team regular Sten Pentus.
Porsche has loaned factory driver Marco Holzer to the ADAC GT Masters regular Shutz Motorsport squad for which he will race a 911 GT3-R alongside Martin Ragginger.
The German Zakspeed team makes its international sportscar return after a relaunch in the German ADAC Master series this year. Its Mercedes will be driven by Alon Day and Andreas Simonsen, both race winners in last year's FIA GT Series.
Plans for Yelmer Buurman to race a Fortec Mercedes failed to come to fruition when the team had to scratch its second entry. Its solo car will be raced, as at Zolder last weekend, Benji Hetherington and Miguel Toril.
