Jenks, Axboe and Anzaldi do doubles as D'Ambrose sweeps Radical Pro 1340 at Road America

Road America delivered in every sense of the word. Set against the backdrop of the Kettle Moraine and sharing the stage with the NTT IndyCar Series, the Radical Cup North America paddock brought over 30 cars and four fiercely contested classes of competition to one of the most revered road racing venues in North America. Rounds 7, 8 and 9 of the 2026 championship had been circled on calendars all season – and when the action finally began on the 4.048-mile, 14-turn natural terrain circuit, it lived up to every expectation.

"Road America is one of the best events on the IndyCar calendar, and Radical Cup’s large fields and action-packed racing has meant it’s become a fan favorite of the weekend," Radical Cup’s Tom Drewer had said ahead of the event. “The IndyCar backdrop adds an extra layer of prestige to the weekend and pressure on drivers to perform in front of one of the biggest road racing crowds in North America.”

The racing that followed proved Drewer right on every count, with Steve Jenks, Mike Anzaldi and Mike D’Ambrose making impressive returns to the series while Jonas Axboe continued to be standout in Pro 1500.

Qualifying – Yang impresses as do series returnees

It was 2022 Platinum champion and reigning World Champion Steve Jenks who set the benchmark in qualifying, guiding the Group-A Radical New York SR10 XXR to pole position with a blistering lap of 2:05.480 around a circuit that offers precious little margin for error. Jenks had been flagged as one to watch heading into the weekend and he delivered from the opening session, topping both the Platinum class and the overall 29-car grid.

Chip Romer of ONE Motorsports qualified second overall at 2:06.175, with Giant Racing’s Robert Rossi – the class points leader coming in third. Wayne Williams, Rossi’s closest championship rival from ONE Motorsports, slotted in fourth in class, setting up a tense intra-team dynamic heading into race day. Curb Strike’s David Alban completed the Platinum top-five with a lap time 2:06.439.

Pro 1500 polesitter honors went to Valour Racing’s Jack Yang – who had won the class at Road America in 2024. Championship leader Jonas Axboe of Radical Northwest Cameron Racing qualified third in class at 2:10.968, sandwiching Valour teammate Luke Kendall in between. ONE Motorsports’ Matt Romer and Cameron Racing Radical North West’s Valen Venkatesh completed the Pro 1500 top-five.

Mike Anzaldi – a returning stalwart with numerous Radical Cup victories to his name – showed exactly why his return to the RYNO Racing camp was anticipated, claiming Gold class pole with a 2:11.943. Primal Motorsports’ Chris Huhn, who leads the Gold standings, qualified second in class, with Group-A Radical New York’s Dennis Kelly third. DDautosports newcomers Ross Wolf and Luciano Pancea rounded out the Gold top-five in their first Radical Cup appearances.

In Pro 1340, Team Stradale’s Mike D’Ambrose – the man who swept all three races at the opening round at Sebring – again announced his class credentials in emphatic fashion, taking Pro 1340 pole position.

Teammate Mike D’Ambrose Jr., competing alongside his father under the Team Stradale tent, qualified second in class. Championship contenders Decklan Deonarine (RySpec) and Evan Wolf (Crown with Radical Arizona) qualified fourth and fifth respectively, with the pair separated by just 16 points in the standings heading into the weekend.

Race 1 – Round 7: Jenks controls as chaos breaks out behind

The 40-minute Race 1 opened with drama before it had barely begun. Jump start penalties were assessed to Yang and Alban, immediately reshuffling the complexion of the Pro 1500 and Platinum class battles respectively. Contact incidents involving Cars 33 and 7 resulted in drive-through penalties converted to post-race sanctions, and Chris Huhn in the Gold class was penalized for passing under yellow – a chaotic opening race that punished several pre-race favorites.

At the front, however, there was one constant: Steve Jenks. The Group-A Radical New York pilot led from start to finish, completing 16 laps to claim overall Race 1 honors. Wayne Williams gave ONE Motorsports a strong result in second overall and second in Platinum, 3.341 seconds behind Jenks, while Giant Racing’s Robert Rossi – the class points leader – held on for third in Platinum and third overall despite pressure throughout.

With Yang’s false start penalty applied, the Pro 1500 class victory fell to Cameron Racing Jonas Axboe in fourth overall, extending the Danish sensation’s championship advantage. ONE Motorsports’ Matt Romer was second in class in fifth overall, a mere 2.501 seconds back, with Cameron Racing Valen Venkatesh third. Valour’s Luke Kendall – fresh from a podium at Spa Francorchamps in Radical Cup Europe – was fourth in class, with Sam McDougall (Group-A Radical New York) fifth. Yang, despite his pace in qualifying, was shuffled back by the penalty.

RYNO Racing’s Mike Anzaldi picked up victory in Gold, following a rare post-race penalty for championship leader Chris Huhn, who passed under yellow. Impressively Anzaldi was classified sixth overall. Ross Wolf of DDautosports was second in Gold in his Radical Cup debut, with Group-A Radical New York’s Dennis Kelly third to remain well in the hunt in the championship. Omar Balkissoon (Williams Services) was classified fourth, headed of Primal’s David Mason and newcomer Lucian Pancea.

The main headline from Pro 1340 was that Crown with Radical Arizona’s Evan Wolf had a clean bill of health after he was the victim of a high-speed racing incident with Wagner and Deonarine on the front straight following a late race restart. Two wheels and significant bodywork were torn away, but the chassis and cockpit safety structures did their job to allow Wolf to walk away.

Team Stradale’s Mike D’Ambrose once again confirmed his status as the man to beat in Pro 1340, taking the class win in 11th overall and putting daylight between himself and the championship contenders. Son Mike D’Ambrose Jr. was second in class in 12th overall, completing a remarkable father-and-son 1-2 finish for Team Stradale. Williams Services’ Nico Balkissoon – who turned 14 during the Road America weekend – was third in class despite his car receiving a post-race penalty for contact. RySpec’s Deonarine was fourth in class, with Aaron Zeigler of Team Stradale fifth.

Race 2 – Round 8: Rossi Strikes Back as Tight Class Battles Produce Drama Throughout

Robert Rossi turned the tables on Race 1 winner Steve Jenks in a thrilling 40-minute Round 8, guiding the Giant Racing SR10 to the overall victory and the Platinum class win. Jenks pushed hard throughout but had to settle for second in class, just 1.593 seconds behind the Giant Racing entry, while ONE Motorsports' Chip Romer completed the Platinum podium in third. Williams — who posted the fastest lap of the race in Platinum with a 2:05.607 — came home fourth in class, with Curb Strike's David Alban fifth. Curb Strike

teammate Scott Wagner delivered a solid sixth-place class finish, while Dave Tweedlie was classified seventh in Platinum after being unable to continue beyond the opening lap.

In Pro 1500, Jack Yang got redemption for his Race 1 penalty with a class victory for Valour Racing. Championship leader Jonas Axboe of Cameron Racing was second in class just 0.932 seconds behind, with Valour's Luke Kendall a further 0.159 seconds back in third — a stunning three-way battle at the front of the class. Sam McDougall finished fourth for Group-A Radical New York, with Valen Venkatesh fifth. ONE Motorsports' Mitch Romer was assessed a ten-second post-race time penalty for an incident, shuffling him back in the final classification.

The Gold class delivered a different outcome to Race 1, with championship leader Chris Huhn bouncing back emphatically for Primal Motorsports to take the class win. RYNO Racing's Mike Anzaldi was second in Gold, 2.986 seconds back, with DDautosports' Pancea third and Radical Indianapolis Dave Mason fourth. Ross Wolf completed the top-five in Gold.

Mike D'Ambrose continued his commanding Pro 1340 campaign, taking his second class victory of the Road America weekend for Team Stradale. Joining him once again, in a very appropriate moment on Father’s Day, was his son D’Ambrose Jr, who completed another 1-2 for Team Stradale. The youngest driver in the field, Nico Balkissoon completed a hattrick of podiums with another third, while Aaron Ziegler finished an impressive fourth ahead of class points leader Deonarine.

Race 3 – Round 9: Jenks completes the weekend double as D’Ambrose dynasty rolls on

Steve Jenks bookended the Road America weekend in style, claiming the Round 9 Platinum class victory for Group-A Radical New York in the 40-minute finale. Jenks set the fastest lap of the Platinum class on Lap 13 with a 2:08.749. Williams of ONE Motorsports crossed the line second in Platinum, 17.488 seconds back, but even with the podium result he was furious about an early altercation with Rossi, which left Williams to play catch up after being a genuine contender for the win. Teammate Chip Romer also had a race of recovery after a spin following the mandatory pit stop. Along with taking third in class, Romer picked up a bonus point for fastest Platinum lap of the race at 2:08.652. Wagner was fourth in class, while Giant Racing’s Robert Rossi completed the Platinum top-five despite serving a drive-through penalty for the contact with Williams.

The Pro 1500 class served up another nail-biter. Cameron Racing Jonas Axboe swept to the class win recording his fastest lap of the weekend. Valour Racing’s Jack Yang was an incredibly close second, just 0.495 seconds adrift, with teammate Luke Kendall third. Radical Northwest Cameron Racing’s Valen Venkatesh took fourth, with ONE Motorsports’ Matt Romer fifth and Crown with Radical Arizona’s Jordan Holtz sixth. Sam McDougall suffered a self-induced retirement for Group-A Radical New York, completing just three laps before a big shunt into the Turn 3 wall. The Pro 1500 class championship battle will undoubtedly continue to intensify heading into the final rounds, with Kendall remaining in striking distance.

RYNO Racing’s Mike Anzaldi took Gold class honors for the second time in three races at Road America with a best lap of 2:13.743. Primal Motorsports’ Chris Huhn — the Gold standings leader — was 5.049 seconds behind in second, with Group-A Radical New York’s Dennis Kelly third. DDautosports’ Pancea was an impressive fourth and RYNO Racing’s Tweedlie fifth. Dave Mason (Radical Indianapolis GRP) finished sixth after losing a lap to the leaders, and DDautosports’ Ross Wolf was listed as not running in the final results.

In Pro 1340, Mike D’Ambrose continued his flawless Road America sweep, taking his third consecutive class victory of the weekend for Team Stradale. D’Ambrose Jr. again followed his father home in second just 1.443 seconds later — the two combining for a third father-and-son podium lockout across the three rounds. Nico Balkissoon was third in class, with Team Stradale’s Aaron Zeigler fourth and RySpec’s Decklan Deonarine fifth.

Next stop for Radical Cup North America will be a trip to the Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta over the July 23-26 weekend. For more information on Radical Cup North America, please visit RadicalCupNorthAmerica.com.
