Brake issue leads to another crash in qualifying for Power

Will Power will start at the back of the field for the second time this season after suffering a crash during qualifying for the Children’s of Alabama Indy Grand Prix when the Australian’s car failed to slow on the high-speed approach to the Turn 5 hairpin.

“I think it was a rear brake failure,” Power said. “Fortunately, the fence moved some and made it a softer hit than it could have been. We’re going to start from last again and we’ll have to see what we can do. This was an actual failure, not a brake-locking issue. Pedal to the floor.”

The driver of the No. 26 Andretti Global Honda crashed during qualifying for the Phoenix oval race and was able to charge to the front. Contact with ECR’s Christian Rasmussen while leading ended his impressive run, but Power rebounded at Arlington with a podium which vaulted the IndyCar veteran to 11th in the drivers’ standings.
