Skip Barber Racing sweeps Road America
Skip Barber Racing swept the McLaren Trophy America weekend at Road America, scoring a pair of overall and Pro class victories with Cooper Broll and Tommy Pintos. Additionally, Pintos secured his second consecutive pole position in the No. 919 PolePace McLaren Artura Trophy Evo.
With Broll and Pintos’ victories, Skip Barber Racing has now won in three different SRO America–sanctioned series, adding to its triumphs in TC America powered by the Skip Barber Racing School and GT4 America.
Pintos took the green flag in Race 1 on Saturday, but Mother Nature had other plans for the 50-minute event. After seven laps, foul weather forced the race to a halt. As the skies darkened, the race was red-flagged and not resumed, awarding Broll and Pintos their first victory of the season.
Sunday’s weather proved far more favorable, and Broll took the green flag in the No. 919 McLaren. After completing his stint, he handed the controls to Pintos, who quickly began reeling in the leaders. Erasing a 15-second gap to the front two cars, Pintos executed back-to-back passes in consecutive corners to move the No. 919 McLaren into the race lead.
“I cannot explain it – the whole team has done an amazing job this weekend,” Pintos said. “Being able to achieve what we have is amazing. Cooper did an incredible job. He left the car in one piece, and I just needed to bring it home quickly!”
Pintos went on to win Race 2 by nearly 10 seconds, completing the weekend sweep for himself, Broll, and Skip Barber Racing.
“Absolutely one of the best places to win in this entire series,” Broll said of Road America. “It’s been a lot of work. I cannot thank our incredible crew enough. It’s been a lot of late nights, so this is really rewarding.”
In addition to Skip Barber Racing’s success in the McLaren Trophy America, brothers Alex and Michael Garcia delivered a podium finish in GT4 America with a stellar drive in the No. 07 PolePace Aston Martin Vantage GT4. Multiple full-course yellows in the second half of the race gave Michael Garcia opportunities to climb the order, and he took full advantage.
Over the final 11 laps, Michael drove the No. 07 Aston Martin from seventh in the Am class to a second-place podium finish.
Rounding out the weekend for Skip Barber Racing, James Klimas piloted the No. 61 Middletown Toyota GR Corolla TC in TC America powered by the Skip Barber Racing School, delivering a pair of clean, consistent races and gaining one position in Race 1.
