Skip Barber Racing opens TC America season with podium finish
Skip Barber Racing demonstrated grit and tenacity as the team rebounded from an early weekend setback to deliver a podium finish in Race 2 of the TC America powered by the Skip Barber Racing School weekend at Sonoma.
Logan Anderson, who previously competed in the Skip Barber Race Series, made his Touring Car racing debut with a pair of clean races. His teammate Dean Lambros, meanwhile, earned the Hard Charger Award in Race 1, followed by a podium finish in Race 2.
A mechanical setback in the opening session of the weekend left Lambros with little time on track and a starting position at the rear of the grid for Race 1. After just two laps Lambros had climbed four positions and moved into the top 10. By the end of the race Lambros had improved by five positions, earning himself the Hard Charger Award.
With plenty of pace in hand, he set the third-fastest lap of the race on his way to a finish in the top half of the order. That quick lap put Lambros on the second row of the grid for Saturday morning’s race. There, he cleanly converted his stronger starting position to a podium finish.
“Sonoma was a tricky weekend for the team, unfortunately we had a mechanical failure early in practice one which took us off the track,” Lambros said. “Our team did a fantastic job sourcing our parts and fixing it in time for the race. The effort they put into the work was something amazing to watch. I can't thank the Skip Barber crew enough for the hard work this weekend, I'm excited to see what we're able to accomplish together at Circuit of the Americas."
Anderson kept improving as the weekend progressed. Anderson’s fastest lap of the weekend came in Race 2, a 1m50.422s that was nearly 0.7s
quicker than his qualifying lap time.
“I honestly couldn’t ask for a better debut weekend,” Anderson said. “It was a decent result for a debut, I kept the car in one piece and I learned a lot from the weekend. The SRO experience was beyond what I expected and I’m excited to keep learning and performing this year!”
TC America powered by the Skip Barber Racing School returns next month at Circuit of the Americas from April 24 – 26.
