Skip Barber Winter Shootout to award more than $200,000

The Skip Barber Race Series Winter Shootout will return this November from Sonoma Raceway with over $200,000 in prizes available for drivers seeking to jump start their formula car racing career.

The Winter Shootout will evaluate drivers on their ability to adapt to instructor feedback, consistency of their laps, their rate of improvement and technical understanding of the vehicle, along with their personal and professional conduct. The Shootout will not feature any wheel-to-wheel racing, instead it will place an emphasis on the learning-first nature of the Skip Barber Race Series and Skip Barber Racing School.

The winner of the Winter Shootout will be awarded a half-season scholarship into the 2027 Skip Barber Race Series. Jaylan Battley, the winner of the Winter Shootout preceding the 2026 season has put that prize to good use. Battley is currently leading the Skip Barber Race Series Driver's Championship with five wins to his name this season.

Second-place will be awarded entry into three events of the 2027 Skip Barber Race Series season while third-place will be granted entry into two events of the 2027 season. The Shootout will be held on Nov. 2-3, 2026 at Sonoma Raceway using the Skip Barber Formula Car.

Eligible drivers include graduates of a Skip Barber Racing School program, competitors with regional or national karting experience and drivers who have raced in Formula 4 or other junior open-wheel series. Accomplished sim racers may also qualify if they can demonstrate sustained success and clean racing in online competition, along with the physical readiness to make the jump to real-world machinery.

As part of the scholarship and Winter Shootout, drivers must demonstrate the financial ability to fund entry into an equal number of races as their scholarship level awards.
