On-board footage from Monger's crash April 16 crash at Donington Park showed him ducking out of line to attempt a pass on the right, only to come upon the stalled Carlin Racing car of Patrik Pasma with no time to react. The race was red flagged as medical workers took more than 90 minutes to remove Monger from the car. He was airlifted to the hospital.
The FIA and Motor Sport Association said they are investigating the crash.
A JustGiving.com page to help raise money to cover Monger's treatment and rehabilitation hit its £260,000 ($333,000) target within hours and has reached more than 316 percent of its goal – now more than £823,000 ($1.049 million) – helped by social media postings and donations from leading figures in Formula 1, IndyCar and other categories. More than 18,800 people have contributed to the cause, including Lewis Hamilton, Felipe Massa, Chip Ganassi and Ryan Hunter-Reay. F1's Jenson Button and Max Verstappen gave £15,000 each.
