Porsche completes first LMP1 test with 2017 919
Porsche's LMP1 team completed its second test of 2017 this week at Spanish circuit Motorland Aragon, the first with a full 2017-spec 919 Hybrid.
At the test, all six factory drivers took turns behind the wheel and clocked almost 4,500 miles in the new car over the five days spent trackside.
The team's first 2017 test took place earlier this month, when Porsche Team traveled to Valencia for tire development ahead of the season and managed 1,800 miles of running. Previously the team had utlized its 2016 chassis with 2017 components.
"The focus [at Aragon] was split between development work and endurance testing. The only minor issues were the fog we experienced at night," chief engineer Stephen Mitas said.
The fog forced Porsche to extend its test two days, which meant Toyota's LMP1 outfit joined it for some running, as it too had planned test days at the circuit.
"Our main focus was on gaining approval of the 2017-spec 919 Hybrid for Silverstone and Spa. We also worked on reliability, set-up and tire testing," team principal Andreas Seidl added.
"It was a very positive first test for the 2017 car. But there's still homework left for Le Mans."
