WEC: Merhi completes Greaves LMP2 test

Former Manor Formula 1 driver Roberto Merhi tested for the Greaves LMP2 team this week. The 24-year-old drove Greaves Motorsport's Nissan-engined Gibson 015S and ORECA 05 chassis over the course of a Dunlop tire test at the Motorland Aragon circuit.

Merhi's manager, Mark Blundell, said that the Spaniard had taken up the opportunity with Greaves "to have a look at LMP2."

"LMP2 is on the radar; it is something we are looking at together with IndyCars," he said. "Several things down the F1 pitlane didn't come together and that has been our main focus up to now, and time is now getting on."

Merhi stated last month that he was aiming to continue in single-seaters after failing to retain his seat at Manor, with which he contested 13 grands prix in 2015. His teammate in those races, Will Stevens has already announced a move to LMP2, with the new Manor Motorsport outfit, headed by former F1 team bosses John Booth and Graeme Lowdon.

Greaves also tested Andrea Pizzitola, champion in last year's one-make Renault Sport Trophy for the Dallara-built RS01, and gave former cycling star Sir Chris Hoy further mileage in a P2 car during the Aragon test.
