SKIP BARBER: The quickest path to sportscar dreams

Do you have dreams of being the next rising star on the sportscar scene? Have you wondered how you fulfill those dreams? The Mazda MX-5 Cup car at the Skip Barber Racing School provides that opportunity. Some of today's rising stars in sportscars, like Kenton Koch, Gar Robinson, and Justin Piscitell cut their teeth in the Skip Barber Mazdaspeed Challenge.

As you look at those individuals this year, Koch won 11 of 14 in IMSA's Prototype Lites category on his way to securing the championship. Koch won the 2012 Skip Barber Mazdaspeed Summer Series, the 2013 Skip Barber Mazdaspeed Pro Challenge, and the 2014 Battery Tender MX-5 Cup Series presented by BF Goodrich Tires. Piscitell, who won the 2008 Skip Barber Mazdaspeed Summer Series, was absolutely dominant in qualifying on the pole in seven of 10 races in the Continental Tire Challenge Series. Robinson, another Skip Barber MX-5 alum, took home the prestigious Trans Am 2 Championship as he put to use the racecraft he learned while running the MX-5 Cup cars.

Along with SBRS alums, many other drivers who raced MX-5s in various series have gone on to fill some very lucrative seats after proving themselves in the MX-5 platform. Tom Long who spent years showcasing his abilities to the sportscar world in an MX-5 now finds himself as a factory driver for Mazda's Prototype efforts in the Weathertech United Sportscar Series. Eric Foss, a former MX-5 Cup Champion has gone on to win a championship in IMSA competition. Michael Cooper most recently won the GTS class championship in the Pirelli World Challenge Series. Marc Miller who was a force to be reckoned with in an MX-5 Cup car, recently had the opportunity of a lifetime to compete in the 24 hours of Le Mans in a Viper.

When you look at the achievements of the drivers whose roots lie within the MX-5 Cup car, the answer is clear. If you are successful in an MX-5, you can be successful anywhere. As you couple the statistics with the proven pedigree of 40 years of building the next champion at Skip Barber Racing School, the answer is clear. The Skip Barber Racing School MX-5 3 day course is the best route to take if you want to put yourself on the map in professional sportscar racing.
