WEC: Greaves adds Ligier to its LMP2 fleet
Reigning European Le Mans Series champion team Greaves Motorsport is purchasing a new Ligier LMP2 coupe ahead of its expansion into the World Endurance Championship next year.
The Ligier JSP2 will join an open-top Gibson 015 in the British team's fleet, and a decision on which chassis will race in the WEC and which will be entered in the ELMS will be made at a later date. The purchase follows the sale of its second Gibson (formerly Zytek) to the Strakka WEC team earlier in the year.
"We were not anticipating the high level of interest for next season and sold our other Gibson chassis earlier in the year," Greaves team principal Jacob Greaves said. "We weighed up all the options, and for us, the Ligier was the obvious choice. We plan to start the program with Ligier in December in preparation for 2016."
Both chassis will be powered by the Nissan normally-aspirated V8 and run on Dunlop tires. No drivers have been announced for either program, although Greaves' sponsorship deal with data encryption company Kairos will continue in the ELMS next season.
Greaves, which won the 2015 ELMS with Jon Lancaster, Bjorn Wirdheim and Gary Hirsch, will be undertaking its first full WEC campaign since '13.
