IMSA: Walker continues search for GT program

Derrick Walker says a recent report linking his team to Audi – or any brand – for an IMSA program is inaccurate. Although the Scot has held many conversations with auto manufacturers since his sponsor Falken Tire announced its exit from the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, he clarified Walker Racing's status as a team searching for work.

"Somebody said to me they read that I've got an Audi deal, and it's the first I've heard of it," he told RACER. "I spoke with them months ago, and there was nothing there to put a deal together. I was one of many Audi spoke to. I have a relationship with Porsche and would like to continue there, but I don't really have anything right now. I'm still in the shadows working on things to try and get somewhere."

Walker fears it may be too late to start a new GT program with the first WeatherTech Championship race less than three months away, and says he's open to using his staff to support other programs. Walker has also been looking at other series to consider for future engagement.

"I have a great group here, a great facility, and everything in place to go racing with whoever might want the help; we're going to keep looking for what's out there, but it's getting late in the day," he said. "And if we can do contract work for teams or organizations that could use support, there's no concerns here. I don't need to see Walker Racing's name on the entry list as long as my guys are working and helping someone in need.

"And for further down the road, I'm looking at Global Rallycross and we have expertise that would work in many different formulas. As of right now, we just want to be clear that we aren't obligated to any teams or manufacturers and are ready to go to work."
