V8 Supercar: Courtney ruled out of Bathurst 1000
Holden Racing Team driver James Courtney will miss this weekend's V8 Supercars Bathurst 1000.
The 2010 champion sustained two broken ribs and a collapsed lung in a freak pitlane accident at Sydney Motorsport Park in August, and has not sufficiently recovered to race at Mount Panorama.
As with last month's Sandown 500 precursor, two-time Bathurst winner Russell Ingall will stand in for Courtney in the #22 Commodore alongside Jack Perkins. The pair finished ninth at Sandown.
Ingall's first Bathurst win came alongside Perkins' father, Larry, in 1995.
"James suffered serious injuries in August's incident, with the architecture concerning his rib and lung area severely damaged," a medical spokesman said. "While there has been significant betterment in the healing, and his pain has been abated and controlled, James has not been cleared to race this weekend.
"We have made this decision in the interests of James' health and recovery."
