Introduction: Skip Barber MAZDASPEED Pro Challenge Driver, Nikko Reger

Hello, I am Nikko Reger, a Skip Barber MAZDASPEED Pro Challenge Rookie. I hope to become a regular blogger around here at RACER Magazine. As many of you don't know me, I am of German and Chinese descent (sound familiar? I'm the brother of

Timo Reger

). I was born and raised in Houston Texas, and I race cars. Since I was a child, I have had a passion for cars. Ever since I can remember I was always racing something, especially with my older brother Timo.

Whether it be bicycles, hot wheels, and now racecars, I never wanted to lose. I started GoKarts when I was 9 and ever since I have been climbing the racing ladder from Spec Miata, now to my first season of the Skip Barber Pro MX-5 Challenge.
I hope to write about my life in racing especially as a rookie in the Pro Skip Barber MX-5 Challenge. Being a rookie in a pro racing series for the first time has been challenging. Showing up and watching all of the big boys show up has been something I have always dreamed of. I mean I sat one table over from Patrick Dempsey, or I have spoken to Townsend Bell accidentally at lunch. These people are racing icons to me, I have followed them since I was a young boy. Yet, in such a short season, I have faced strong competition.

After running a year and a half of Spec Miata and consistently racing in the front, I hadn't raced anything near the NC MX-5 racecars. For me the first weekend at Sebring was a rude awakening. I found that I was fast and capable of racing against the best, but there was so much more to this series. So far I have 1 win, 2 podiums and sit in 5th for the championship. I look forward to every race and look at every situation as a lesson, and I have already learned so much from this season.

So that was a little bit about me, if you have any questions or comments for me I am always happy to reply.
