Domenicali replaces Berger in FIA role

Ex-Ferrari Formula 1 team principal Stefano Domenicali has been named the new president of the FIA Single Seater Commission. The appointment was announced at the FIA General Assembly at Doha in Qatar.

Domenicali succeeds Gerhard Berger, who in three years at the helm of the Commission reinstated the FIA Formula 3 European Championship and drove the concept of FIA Formula 4. Berger, in turn, took over from inaugural president Barry Bland, under whom the F4 concept originated.

The MSA's John Ryan will be vice-president to Domenicali.

Italian Domenicali now works at the Volkswagen Audi Group, while the Single Seater Commission presidency is unpaid. Audi said last month that Domenicali was employed by VAG in a non-motorsport position, although the BBC reported yesterday that he is

conducting a feasibility study for the corporation into a potential Formula 1 entry
