Rookie Muller on top in DTM testing

DTM rookie Nico Muller was quickest on the second day of pre-season testing at the Hungaroring circuit on Tuesday.

The Team Rosberg driver (LEFT) produced a lap of 1m37.505s during the afternoon and bettered Miguel Molina's first day best time of 1m37.792s to give Audi its second consecutive top position on the time sheets.

"This was a great first day at Audi and in DTM," said Muller. "We don't really mind the times but nonetheless, it's always nicer to be at the top of the times than further down."

The 21-year-old finished the day 0.410 seconds ahead of fellow Audi driver Mattias Ekstrom, with Mercedes' Gary Paffett completing the trio of drivers to dip beneath the 1m38s barrier. Series returnee Paul di Resta (TOP) was fourth quickest and the Scotsman was followed by four BMW M4 drivers, the quickest of which was Marco Wittmann.

"We succeeded in completing our scheduled programme and gathered some valuable experiences," said the RMG driver. "We don't try to set the fastest lap times, but want to reel off our program and gather as much information as possible, and so far it has been a very positive test."

DTM debutant Antonio Felix da Costa, who set the pace in the morning, Joey Hand and Bruno Spengler completed the BMW quartet occupying positions fifth to eighth.

Former Formula 1 driver Vitaly Petrov claimed ninth, ahead of the Audis of Edoardo Mortara and Timo Scheider.
