Rasmussen finds career-best qualifying form in D.C.
The FOX broadcasters love to call ECR’s Christian Rasmussen the “Sultan of Sketch” for his daredevil approach to wielding the No. 21 Chevy, but after charging around the Freedom 250 street circuit in Washington, D.C. on Saturday to qualify a career-best fourth, he performed more like “Razz Electric.”
“It was there from the beginning,” said the never boring 26-year-old from Denmark. “We rolled off the truck super well this weekend. We made a few improvements for the second practice and made a few improvements for qualifying. We improved the car; that’s just the name of the game.”
Teammate Alexander Rossi also had pace leading into qualifying but struggled to summon the necessary speed and will start 17th in the No. 20 ECR Chevy. For Rasmussen, the No. 21 car was providing all of the necessary confidence to make the Firestone Fast Six and earn a second-row starting spot directly behind Andretti’s Kyle Kirkwood.
“We started on the right progression and stepped up each time, which is very big for us,” he said. “I’m very happy, putting the Splenda Stevia Chevy at the right end of the field is exciting and representing these brands well and hopefully have a good race tomorrow.”
