TV audience dips for Indy GP

The sixth race of 2026 for the NTT IndyCar Series produced the smallest viewing audience of the season as an average of 656,000 people watched Christian Lundgaard take the No. 7 Arrow McLaren Chevy to victory lane at the Sonsio Grand Prix on FOX.

Held on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course, the precursor to May’s Indianapolis 500 had a stronger-than-usual turnout onsite for the event, but the live attendance wasn’t matched by those who wanted to watch the Saturday evening race which took the green flag at nearly 5pm ET. In 2025, the Indy GP had 710,000 fans tune in, and the event captured an audience of 875,387 in 2024 on NBC.

The end of the 85-lap race featured a peak audience of 890,000 viewers from 6:45-6:57pm, and despite the drop in year-to-year broadcast consumption, FOX has maintained an average of 1,141,000 viewers across the six opening races.

Four of the six races have delivered more than 1 million viewers, which is a vast improvement over 2025 where audiences larger than 1 million happened five times in total throughout the 17-race calendar.
