Ferrari extends deal with Hanson for AF Corse Hypercar

2025 Le Mans 24 Hours winner Phil Hanson has had his Ferrari factory contract extended, the Italian marque has announced.

The Briton became a Ferrari factory driver on a multi-year deal ahead of the 2026 season, having triumphed at the Circuit de la Sarthe aboard the AF Corse-run privateer No. 83 499P Hypercar last year. This announcement extends that deal, though the number of years he has signed for has not been publicly disclosed.

Since stepping into a factory role, Hanson's racing program has focused on racing the No. 83 499P in this year's FIA World Endurance Championship alongside his fellow Le Mans winners Robert Kubica and Ye Yifei. The trio currently sit ninth in the drivers' standings, having recorded a best finish of fifth last time out at São Paulo.

While it’s not been officially confirmed yet, this extension to his contract is expected to see him continue racing in the WEC next year aboard the No. 83 499P for a third season.

“I’m very happy, very pleased,” Hanson told reporters at COTA ahead of the WEC’s race in Texas. “It’s my new home, and I have a very positive outlook for the future. The ambition is to remain with this family as long as possible. I’m privileged to have this opportunity, and to be renewed is great. Last year was the highlight with winning Le Mans, but there’s unfinished business; I am hungry for more success in the future.

“It’s great for confidence; it’s good to feel comfortable in an organization.”

This new deal may unlock further opportunities for Hanson with Ferrari beyond WEC programs. He has his eyes on IMSA as a place he’d like to compete in more often going forward.

“I’d love to do more American racing,” he revealed. “I got a taste of it for a couple of years in IMSA. I really like America; it’s grown on me. I like the racing, the tracks.

“WEC is my home, but if I can add to it, I’d like it to be America. Obviously it’s not really what I want; it’s what Ferrari needs. But if I could pick, it would be something out here.”
