SPY SHOTS: Mystery Ferrari spotted testing

Fresh pictures and video have emerged from a track test at Fiorano of a likely Ferrari 296-derived car, which has sparked plenty of speculation about its purpose in recent weeks.

RACER has established, through reputable sources, that this is a developmental car designed for track use, not for competition. It is likely to become an addition to the hugely successful Corse Clienti program, which Ferrari operates in-house from its Fiorano complex.

The car is absolutely not a road-legal version of any competition car, and neither is it linked to the XX Program, which launched back in 2005.

The pictures of the car show it in a camouflage livery, driven by members of Ferrari’s endurance driver roster in 2026 race suits.

Looking closer, the shots and footage also reveal distinct aerodynamic details, which differ from the track models in production (GT3 Evo and Challenge), including the rear wing, end plates, pillars, hood and splitter.

Ferrari has a longstanding tradition of unveiling its latest track cars in the final part of the year, during big events such as Finali Mondiali, including the 499P, 499P Modificata and 296 Challenge in recent years.

Will we have to wait until this year’s event, at Barcelona in October, to find out more?
