O’Sullivan leads Miami E-Prix rookie practice
Zak O’Sullivan topped a quiet rookie free practice for Envision Racing ahead of the Miami E-Prix at the Miami International Autodrome.
The non-competitive 40-minute session, as well as giving inexperienced drivers seat time, plays a vital role as teams look to maximize their data gathering ahead of the first Formula E race at the Hard Rock Stadium venue.
Super Formula racer O’Sullivan was fastest in both 350kw with four-wheel drive and 300kw with rear-wheel drive, with his fastest time of 55.810s coming using the former.
Second was Theo Pourchaire for Citroen Racing, 0.093s adrift of O’Sullivan, with Gabriele Mini in the first of two Nissans – all other teams opting to just field the mandatory one car in the session – a further 0.018s back.
Pepe Marti, the only driver in the session with a full-time Formula E seat, but able to take part since he’s still classified as a rookie driver until the end of the season, was fourth for Kiro as the first driver outside the 55s bracket, ahead of DS Penske’s Nikita Bedrin, with Alessandro Giusti sixth for Jaguar TCS Racing.
Dale Coyne Racing IndyCar driver Dennis Hauger ended the session seventh for Andretti, ahead of DTM champion Ayhancan Guven for Porsche and Hugh Barter for Lola Yamaha Abt, with Chloe Chambers for Mahindra and Abbi Pulling in the second Nissan – who had a spin at Turn 11 after taking too much curb – rounded out the times.
Bedrin was the driver who covered the most laps, with 28 overall, while Pourchaire completed the least with 22. The field of 11 cars was covered by just 1.42s.

Dominik often jokes that he was born in the wrong country – a lover of NASCAR and IndyCar, he covered both in a past life as a junior at Autosport in the UK, but he’s spent most of his career to date covering the sliding and flying antics of the U.S.’ interpretation of rallycross. Rather fitting for a man that says he likes “seeing cars do what they’re not supposed to do”, previously worked for a car stunt show, and once even rolled a rally car with Travis Pastrana. He was also comprehensively beaten in a kart race by Sebastien Loeb once, but who hasn’t been?
