Marti completes Kiro line-up and Formula E grid

Cupra Kiro has completed its driver line-up for the upcoming Formula E season by signing Spanish driver Pepe Marti to race alongside Dan Ticktum.

Marti joins the team in place of David Beckmann who departed the team after a sole season, and fills one of the most desirable seats in Formula E, with Kiro running proven Porsche powertrains and winning its first race last season.

Maserati refugee Jake Hughes was thought to be in line for the seat, and even drove for the team in a shakedown recently, according to The Race, but will now spend the season on the sidelines with Marti’s Kiro seat being the last to be confirmed for the season, which will begin in Sao Paulo on December 6.

“I’m very excited to join Cupra Kiro for the 2025-26 Formula E season,” said Marti. “Obviously, it will be my first time racing in the category, and I’ll be a rookie, but nonetheless, I’m looking forward to it.

“The team is coming into Season 12 off the back of a win in Jakarta, and I feel very motivated to get this new chapter started. With Dan [Ticktum] as my teammate, I’ll have a lot to learn and catch up on at the beginning of the season, but my goal is to get up to speed, improve quickly and score points and hopefully get a couple of good results.”

The Red Bull junior has raced in Formula 2 for the last two seasons, winning four sprint races in that time, and currently sits sixth in the standings for the current campaign, but will transition to Formula E immediately.

Marti, who is managed by Fernando Alonso’s A14 Management, previously won three times in Formula 3, and won races in UAE and Spanish Formula 4, as well as the Formula Regional Asian/Middle East championship, where he was runner-up in 2022.

“Welcoming Pepe to Cupra Kiro marks an exciting new chapter for the team,” said Russell O'Hagan, chief operating officer at Cupra Kiro. “Despite being just 20 years old, Pepe has shown exceptional levels of maturity, composure, and intelligence, which, when combined with his natural speed, makes him stand out as a top talent in modern motorsport.

“His decision to step away from Formula 2 and commit fully to our Formula E project is a real statement of intent, and not only validates our vision as a team, but shows belief in the future of the championship.

“His track record and drive align perfectly with our own goals, and together, we’re building something with long-term potential. I’m excited to see how our journey together unfolds over Season 12.”

Marti’s first appearance for his new team will be at pre-season testing, which will kick off in Valencia next week.

Dominik often jokes that he was born in the wrong country – a lover of NASCAR and IndyCar, he covered both in a past life as a junior at Autosport in the UK, but he’s spent most of his career to date covering the sliding and flying antics of the U.S.’ interpretation of rallycross. Rather fitting for a man that says he likes “seeing cars do what they’re not supposed to do”, previously worked for a car stunt show, and once even rolled a rally car with Travis Pastrana. He was also comprehensively beaten in a kart race by Sebastien Loeb once, but who hasn’t been?
