Nissan Formula E Team signs Pulling to simulator and testing role

Nissan Formula E team has signed 2024 F1 Academy champion Abbie Pulling as its simulator driver in a multi-year agreement.

Pulling will assist Nissan in event preparation and the initial set-up of the team’s new bespoke Dynisma simulator which will come online ahead of next season. The deal will also involve Pulling taking part in official rookie tests for the team, including the upcoming full-day test that will follow the Berlin E-Prix next month. She previously drove for Nissan in the half-day women driver test at the end of pre-season testing back in November.

“I’m really excited to be joining Nissan Formula E Team and extending our collaboration together, after driving for the squad during the all-women’s test in Jarama,” said Pulling. “Everything the team did for me during the test was so professional. The time and effort put in to make sure I was prepared was great to see, and the crew were patient with me as a rookie.

“The GEN3 Evo car is so unique, especially the 350kW mode in all-wheel drive which was very fun to use! It’s different from anything I’ve driven before, and it took some time to adjust to the increased power. I’m looking forward to my work in the simulator and to take the car on track as well when the opportunities arise.”

Previously a member of Nissan sister brand Alpine’s driver academy, Pulling has also competed in Ginetta Juniors, British Formula 4, and W Series, and is contesting the GB3 Series in the UK this season.

“We’re very pleased to welcome Abbi to the team as our official rookie and simulator driver on a multi-year agreement,” said Tommaso Volpe, Nissan Formula E Team managing director and team principal. “We were very impressed with her speed, commitment, and professionalism during the all-women’s test in Madrid last November, and we’re very happy to extend and formalize our collaboration.

“She is very talented – she was able to adapt incredibly quickly to the car and comfortably top the timesheets, which is difficult in every category but even more so in Formula E, so she is the perfect candidate to join us in this role.

“Abbi will have many responsibilities in the position we’ve created for her; we want to give her as much experience as possible and we are confident that this long-term, continued collaboration will be very beneficial both for the team and for Abbi, to keep developing as a more complete driver.”

Pulling joins an auxiliary driver lineup at Nissan that also includes Sergio Sette Camara, who will race in Berlin in place of Norman Nato who will be contesting the 6 Hours of Sao Paulo World Endurance Championship race for Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA.

Dominik often jokes that he was born in the wrong country – a lover of NASCAR and IndyCar, he covered both in a past life as a junior at Autosport in the UK, but he’s spent most of his career to date covering the sliding and flying antics of the U.S.’ interpretation of rallycross. Rather fitting for a man that says he likes “seeing cars do what they’re not supposed to do”, previously worked for a car stunt show, and once even rolled a rally car with Travis Pastrana. He was also comprehensively beaten in a kart race by Sebastien Loeb once, but who hasn’t been?
