Stroll withdraws from Spanish GP due to hand and wrist pain
Lance Stroll will not race in the Spanish Grand Prix due to pain in his hand and wrist.
The Canadian had been summoned to the stewards for failing to get weighed immediately after qualifying, but the hearing was delayed due to unforeseen circumstances. It now transpires Stroll has been suffering with pain in the early part of this season, that doctors believe is related to his pre-season cycling crash over two years ago.
“Over the course of the past six weeks Lance has been experiencing pain in his hand and wrist, which his medical consultant believes is in relation to the procedure he underwent in 2023,” an Aston Martin statement read.
“As a result his medical team have confirmed that he will not race tomorrow and he will undergo a procedure to rectify these issues before focusing on his recovery.”
Stroll had qualified in 14th place for the race at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, but his withdrawal will move the rest of the field up a place. Aston Martin is not allowed to replace Stroll for the race as any driver starting a grand prix must have taken part in qualifying.
Stroll has scored all of Aston Martin’s 14 points so far this season. The next race after Spain is his home event in Montreal, with the Canadian Grand Prix taking place on June 15.
