Suarez to pull double duty in Mexico
Daniel Suarez will run both NASCAR races in his home country next month.
Trackhouse Racing and JR Motorsports announced Tuesday that Suarez will run the No. 9 Chevrolet in the Xfinity Series race at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez on June 14 in addition to his regular ride in Trackhouse's No.99 Cup Car. Quaker State will be the primary sponsor on his Xfinity Series car.
The event will mark a return to Mexico City for the Xfinity Series, and the Cup Series' inaugural trip to the venue.
“Having the opportunity to compete in the Xfinity Series race makes the weekend in Mexico City even better,” Suarez said. “I’ve been very impressed with how fast JR Motorsports has been this season, and I can’t wait to get behind the wheel of the Quaker State Chevrolet in a few weeks. Being born and raised in Mexico is incredibly special to me. I have dreamed about racing in my home country every day since I left Mexico to chase my NASCAR dream in 2011. I appreciate everyone at Quaker State and JR Motorsports coming on board to make this a reality.”
Suarez is a former Xfinity Series champion (2016). He moved into a full-time Cup Series ride a year later, but has made 20 starts in the series in the year since. His most recent were in 2024 at Daytona and Chicago.
The Xfinity Series last competed in Mexico City in 2008. The two events in June will be the first time Suarez has run a NASCAR national series race in his home country.
“I think everyone is going to be amazed by the reception in Mexico,” Suarez said. “We want to make this weekend permanent on the NASCAR calendar for many years.
“Mexico has been loving motorsports for a very long time, and I feel like, slowly, that has also changed into NASCAR. NASCAR is a very important sport for Mexico, and it continues to grow with the NASCAR Mexico Series and now the Cup and Xfinity Series going there. It’s going to be a big deal. There are a lot of super excited people.”
