Lundgaard scores timely oval breakthrough with Milwaukee podium

Christian Lundgaard’s most impressive oval performance was delivered last year at the Milwaukee Mile, where he wheeled the No. 7 Chevy to sixth, and with another year of experience to draw from, the outgoing Arrow McLaren driver set a new career best with third in Sunday’s Race 2 on the one-mile oval.

"I feel like the car's been good really since qualifying,” Lundgaard said. “We made some changes going into there. Obviously, Race 1, the first half, was good. We drove our way from seventh to third. We had a few bobbles on pit stops and pit lane today, which was very unfortunate. The guys have been awesome all year. I think that just proves how good we were today, still getting a podium out of it.”

Lundgaard has two more races – the continuation of Saturday’s rain-delayed Race 1 is next – before bidding farewell to the team. He sees an opportunity to produce more of the same.

"It's a long race,” he said of the 160 laps left to run. “It's going to be a little shorter this afternoon, but just happy we're out there. We're scoring points to the guys we need to score points on, and getting hardware at the same time.”
