Serra, d'Ambrosio to move from Mercedes to Ferrari

Ferrari has announced the signing of two key members of the Mercedes team – Loic Serra and Jerome d’Ambrosio – who will both start work later this year.

Serra (above, with Lewis Hamilton) has been at Mercedes for 14 years and was head of vehicle dynamics from 2013 to 2018 as the team’s dominant spell began, before being promoted to the position of performance director, a role the Frenchman has held for the past five years.

Moving to Maranello, Serra will become head of chassis performance engineering at Ferrari, reporting to technical director of chassis and aerodynamics Enrico Cardile. Ferrari says he will oversee multiple areas, “including track engineering, aero development, aero operations and vehicle performance."

Alongside Serra’s move, former Mercedes driver development director d’Ambrosio will also leave Brackley and become deputy team principal to Fred Vasseur. As well as working alongside Vasseur, the Belgian former F1 driver takes on the role of head of the Ferrari Driver Academy.

The pair will both start on 1 October of this year, and confirmation of their moves follows Lewis Hamilton’s decision to join Ferrari in 2025, while Adrian Newey has been heavily linked with a position at Maranello after announcing his future departure from Red Bull.

Ferrari currently sits second in the constructors’ championship, 52 points behind Red Bull and 123 ahead of fourth-placed Mercedes.
