BMW confirms GTE Pro line-ups for Le Mans

BMW M Motorsport has confirmed the line-ups for its pair of full-season FIA WEC BMW M8 GTEs in a packed GTE Pro class for the 2019 Le Mans 24 Hours next month.

BMW Team MTEK will be the Bavarian marque’s sole contenders in a 17-car GTE Pro class with Aston Martin, Corvette, Ferrari, Ford and Porsche also represented.

Martin Tomczyk, Nick Catsburg and Phillip Eng will drive the No. 81 M8 GTE, a repeat of the trio in the car for the 2018 Le Mans 24 Hours.

Eng was part of the BMW Team RLL effort that scored a top-10 overall finish en route to a GTLM class win at this year’s Rolex 24 At Daytona, driving a BMW Team RLL M8 GTE with with Augusto Farfus, Colton Herta and Connor de Phillippi.

António Félix da Costa, Augusto Farfus and Jesse Krohn will drive the sister No. 82 car. Krohn therefore makes his Le Mans debut after impressing as a regular driver for BMW Team RLL in the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship.

BMW Team MTEK, meanwhile, is still awaiting a decision on whether there will be factory support to continue its FIA WEC program after public statements from BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt that the marque’s involvement in the World Endurance Championship was under review.
