Nine drivers sent to the rear for Talladega start
Nine drivers will start from the rear of the field Sunday afternoon at Talladega Superspeedway.
With the GEICO 500 being an impound race, teams were not allowed to work on the cars after qualifying. But eight teams made unapproved adjustments to negate their starting spots.
Those drivers moving to the rear are Ricky Stenhouse Jr. (qualified sixth), Martin Truex Jr. (qualified 20th), Kyle Busch (qualified 22nd), Denny Hamlin (qualified 23rd), Ryan Newman (qualified 24th), Erik Jones (qualified 27th), Reed Sorenson (qualified 37th), and Cody Ware (qualified 40th).
Brendan Gaughan will also have to start at the rear of the field because he did not qualify the No. 62 Chevrolet. Gaughan missed qualifying by traveling back home for his son’s communion. Tyler Reddick drove the car on Saturday, clocking in 29th fastest.
