Less than four months after fracturing her spine in a frightening crash at the Macau Grand Prix Formula 3 race that made headlines around the world, German teenager Sophia Floersch was back in the cockpit of a race car.
Floersch, who said back in December that she intended to be back in a car by early March, made good on that prediction when she tested a Formula European Masters F3 car entered by her Van Amersfoort Racing team at Monza. Underscoring her impressive recovery, the 18-year-old logged the fastest lap time of the day.
The European Masters series features the cars previously used by the European F3 Championship, which has merged with the former GP3 series and will race as the FIA Formula 3 Championship with an all-new chassis as the official feeder to Formula 2. The European Masters will contest nine rounds in support of the DTM touring series.
