Kurt Busch keeps his cool over contract situation
Kurt Busch said he is not worried about his future despite Stewart-Haas Racing declining to pick up the option on his contract.
Saturday morning, Busch told a small group of reporters at Watkins Glen International he's already had a couple of offers. The 2004 champion is just going to have to see how things play out, even if it seems late in the year to have to finalize next season.
"There's no stress whatsoever," said Busch. "There's plenty of time for all different options to unfold."
SHR decided not to pick up the option on Busch's contract
, making him a free agent. However, it is possible the two sides could come to a new agreement to keep Busch in the organization.
"Ford is definitely more on my side with the way that the results came out," said Busch, "so we'll see how it all plays out."
While Busch is staying positive through this process, he did admit SHR not picking up his option "gets the crew guys all flustered."
"Ford is very surprised by it, and so we just go to stay focused, stay sharp. There's no reason to think I couldn't be back here, just a matter of making it all work out," he added. "I'm not too worried about it."
In 128 races with SHR, Busch has five wins and finished seventh in the championship last season. In February, Busch won his first Daytona 500 and is locked into the playoffs.
