Ferrucci chasing part-time opportunity with Foyt for 2027

Santino Ferrucci wasn’t mentioned at any point in AJ Foyt Racing’s press release regarding Dennis Hauger’s signing and appointment to the No. 14 Chevy that Ferrucci drove from 2023-2026.

But the 28-year-old, who made his first IndyCar start in 2018, has no intention of leaving the series. Despite being out of the 14 car and out of contract, Ferrucci hopes to sign a new deal with Foyt that would keep him involved in an unspecified manner.

“I am working on a contract with Foyt currently,” Ferrucci told RACER after noting it would not be in a full-time capacity.

His popularity within the team’s primary sponsorship base should provide ongoing opportunities to represent Hendricks Holding Company, Inc., and Homes For Our Troops, but the Connecticut native heads into the offseason with no guaranteed racing in place with Foyt, nor any other IndyCar team.

Ferrucci’s services during the month of May in a third Foyt entry would be the first and most obvious avenue for the team to pursue. Distilling Ferrucci’s experience at all of IndyCar’s tracks, and especially the ovals, would be beneficial in a mentoring role to enrich Hauger as the Norwegian embarks on his sophomore IndyCar season.

And with the status of Foyt’s second car in limbo until Penske Entertainment decides whether it will license Indy NXT veteran Josh Pierson to compete in IndyCar, Ferrucci could have an array of options to consider.

Coaching Pierson or another paying driver in the No. 4 Chevy, being signed to split the ovals with a Pierson or similar, or serving as the reserve driver for the 4 car if Penske licenses and rescinds that license with whichever driver all stand as possibilities for Ferrucci and Foyt to consider in a part-time position.

In 109 IndyCar races with five teams, Ferrucci’s peak output came with Foyt, where he earned one pole position (2024), three podiums (2023 and 2025), and placed a career-best ninth in the championship (2024). His record at the Indy 500 remains unblemished with eight starts and eight consecutive finishes inside the top 10, including a run to third for Foyt on debut in 2023.
