Kvyat critical of 'stupid, desperate' Perez

Daniil Kvyat described Sergio Perez as "stupid" and "desperate" in his attempts to overtake in the Monaco Grand Prix after the pair collided late in the race.

Perez was trying to recover from an early damaged front wing (pictured) and had climbed up to 10th place with a move on Stoffel Vandoorne at Ste Devote which resulted in the McLaren understeering into the barrier. With six laps remaining, Perez then tried to dive up the inside of Kvyat at Rascasse but the pair collided, forcing the Toro Rosso driver to retire.

"I was already just doing my job going to the finish – after all what happened this weekend I would have been happy with P9," Kvyat said. "I obviously knew he had the fresher tires, I knew he was going to try. I saw what he did to Vandoorne and I thought, 'This guy is really desperate.'

"So I was just covering my line to be honest, all the time. Then he tried to go from really far away – I didn't even see him coming. Very disappointed. I think it was completely desperate.

"I saw he got a good exit from that corner before and he was far away, then I was just doing that corner at Rascasse and I just felt a hit. I didn't even see him."

Reviewing the in-car footage, Kvyat added: "He just tried to lean on me like it was PlayStation. It doesn't work like that."

Asked if he felt the move was reckless, Kvyat replied: "It was, it was desperate.

"I didn't understand a guy with so much experience and was fighting for the podiums is doing such a desperate, stupid move. But, it's OK, I'm fine. I'm not pissed off at him.

"I think I was just doing my job, it was as simple as that. I was doing a good race, very calm, bringing the car within the points, and you always find that one guy who f•••s your whole day, and it's Perez."

The Russian says he is keen to talk to Perez about the incident, which ultimately saw the Force India driver fail to score a point for the first time in 16 races.

"I'm just going to tell him that he was completely desperate and I don't understand why he did it. His day was ruined anyway; he was trying to be a hero. I don't think people appreciate it – if he made that move stick he wouldn't have been a hero."
