Cadillac fastest in final Sebring practice
Action Express Racing's No. 5 Mustang Sampling entry gave Cadillac Daytona Prototype internationals the quickest time in three consecutive practice sessions for Saturday's Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. The team's lap of 1m49.211s in Friday's final one-hour session was also the best time of the weekend in the IMSA WeatherTech Championship Prototype class.
Rebellion Racing briefly held the top slot in its No. 13 ORECA , running 1m49.329s on new tires, followed by the No. 2 Tequila Patron ESM Nissan DPi (1m49.405s).
The one-hour session also saw the best laps of the weekend in the three other classes.
The No. 66 Ford Chip Ganassi Racing led GT Le Mans with its No. 66 Ford GT (1m56.556s). The No. 24 BMW M6 GTLM (1m56.782s) was second, as the top five times of the weekend were recorded in the session.
The Rolex 24-winning No. 28 Alegra Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R led GT Daytona, at 2m0.491s, followed by the No. 57 Audi R8 LMS GT3 (2m0.646s). BAR1 Motorsports bettered its top speed of the weekend in Performance Challenge, 1m53.340s in its No. 26 entry.
The session was red flagged at the seven-minute mark to retrieve BAR1 Motorsports' stopped No. 20 ORECA, which spun after contact while attempting to pass the Acura of Ozz Negri. While Negri continued to the pits, his car was out for the remainder of the session. It was another bad break for the Michael Shank Racing team's No. 86 entry, which missed Thursday's opening session due to clutch problems. The team's No. 93 Acura was also hit by a PC car later in the session.
"It was uncalled for," said Negri, who was driving the No. 86. "It was only practice, right at the beginning of session. He hit me in the right-rear wheel well, and damaged the right-rear suspension."
