Truex fastest in first MENCS practice at Vegas

Martin Truex Jr. was fastest in the only Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series practice session Friday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Truex put down a lap of 193.500 mph to top the defending winner of the Kobalt 400, Brad Keselowski. Not only is the Team Penske driver the defending Vegas winner, Keselowski also coming off a win last weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Keselowski was second fastest at 192.995 mph with Jimmie Johnson third fastest at 192.988 mph, Kyle Larson fourth fastest at 192.719 mph, and Matt Kenseth, who is celebrating his 45th birthday Friday, rounded out the top five at 192.644 mph.

There were no incidents during the 1 hour, 25-minute session. All 39 cars entered took time during the session.

The rest of the top 10 in practice were Kasey Kahne (192.610 mph), Ryan Blaney (192.356 mph), Kevin Harvick (192.239 mph), Chase Elliott (192.164 mph) and Denny Hamlin (192.068 mph). Complete practice results can be found
