DAKAR: Stage 6 canceled due to bad weather
Saturday's sixth stage of the Dakar rally raid, which had been set to run from Oruro to the Bolivian capital of La Paz, has been canceled due to heavy rain in the region. The organizers took the step after scouts sent ahead to recon the route reported that the terrain was rapidly deteriorating.
The cancellation effectively gives competitors the weekend off, as Sunday was already scheduled to be a rest day. The rally resumes on Monday.
Peugeot's Stephane Peterhansel is the overall leader of the cars category, 1m09s ahead of teammate Sebastien Loeb, winner of
Friday's stage
